Thought it might be fun to share some free writing I've been doing. A lot of writers do it as a warm up, preparing their brains and waking their imaginations up. I enjoy doing it just for the sake of it, it's quite interesting to see what comes up. I'm also using it as a tool to generate ideas for film and video.
Here are 3 different sessions I've done, seems like there's a bit of a reoccurring theme, its quite funny how you can create a little story and change the meaning by adding your own grammar, see what you think (could almost pass as poetry :P ) :
just down the way went through the black tunnel and into the grainy green I saw her looking how dare you molly wiped it away dust it down etch a sketch and then kaboom huge dusty pockets covered with plastic electrics
crafty ways they have not knowing very much stretching it out across many welded wizards try and relax a little she looked wretched and quite round the bout and smiling very loud
tensely wheeling a spoon about whacking down troubled little sister she always always knows exactly what it is to be a fish floating down stream between logs frogs and unfortunately I have very little to do with the whole business
and .... here's a song I LOVE

These are great. How do you generate the words in the first place? Do you use cut ups from papers and then scramble them? Let me know. Reminds me of Kenneth Patchen. Excellent musical choice.
ReplyDelete"tensely wheeling a spoon" - love it.
ReplyDeleteit's just a stream of conscience. you have to just relax and write exactly what comes out. which is kind of harder then it sounds as you really have to try not to think about what you're writing. there used to be a big avant-garde movement that you just have big free writing sessions. it's lots of fun, everyone should try it!
